PONK Records (1997)
Unless you're lucky enough to own the ultra-limited-edition cassettes, LPs and compilation CDs that this important Swiss band has appeared on, it's safe to say you've never heard any of this music. And what music it is! Recorded between 1984 and 1995, this retrospective is more substantial than most bands' "masterpieces". Electronics and modern studio techniques are applied in the name of good old-fashioned Dada, and the CD flows effortlessly from early '70s Floyd/Geesin textures to terrain frequented by artists of the excellent ReR and former Ralph labels. If you're jaded by cookie-cutter electronics that are the norm rather than the exception these days, then you need to wrap your ears around this disc. As always, the packaging is full of great artwork, the attention to detail is stunning, and this is a very limited edition. Imported from Switzerland.

False Prophet Campaign (2-23-1999)
Historical Flush is Diledadafish's second CD release (the also reviewed Mothball was their first). This one, released 5 years later, but featuring material recorded between 1984 and 1995, is yet another surreal electronic romp through Dadaland. It all begins with, appropriately, "First Lady II", one minute of silly synth noises. The eleven plus minute "Westen & Osten (excerpt)" is remnicent of stuff from the late 70's industrial movement, but without the expected darkness and "shockingness" associated with artists like Throbbing Gristle. Pulsing, buzzing synth sounds lead directly into lo-fi drum machine beats and weird processed vocals, almost similar to something like Front 242. Simply brilliant. "One Minute of Shimmel" continues the industrial act with it's gruff European vocals, teutonic drums, and all sorts of weird stuff in the mix. "Factory, The" lives up to its name, with it's calm ambient synths punctuated with drum machines and what may well be human voices processed into machinery type sequences. Quite original. Bits of "All We Need Is Love" actually remind me of something like Atrax Morgue, with the addition of orchestral synths and a sense of humor so lacking in many forms of music. "Udder" is totally absurd silliness, sounding like a more advanced version of those built in demo songs on toy keyboards, with the addition of weird mechanized vocals in the background. "Resinous Dentist" is in the vein of many of the tracks on Mothball, with its nearly dark ambient synth work, similar to Coil's Hellraiser themes. "Max & Hector" is also one of the ones with a darker musical structure, but with computer generated vocals throughout the track. And it all ends with a cover of the Residents' "Walter Westinghouse", nearly 6 minutes of fractured electro-pop music and processed vocals that take on a totally alien quality of their own. Once again, Diledadafish manage to produce more deranged Dadaist electronic "pop" for lack of a better word. Historical Flush is a bit "harsher" compared to Mothball, but still much more listener friendly then experimental Dadaist countrymates Runzelstirn And Gurglestock. Imagine 70's Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle, with a better sense of humor and less "extreme-ism", and you've got Diledadafish. Which should be something you'd want to hear. Great booklet too, featuring artwork for each of the tracks, and a great little piece on "How to Sell Diledadafish By The Power of Display" that should entertain you. (Creaig Dunton)

Splendit reviews (7-27-1998)
This is a compilation of fairly extro music by American and Swiss musicians and collectives. You get a little of everything -- some fairly atypical ambient works, a wealth of skewed-perspective pop songs, some electroacoustic compositions and a whole juddering wodge of music that can't really be effectively or reliably categorized. In other words, a damn fine assortment. Of particular interest are a suite of works by Pink Bob, which combine martial parade-ground themes with rock-opera pop songs -- they seem to be part of the libretto from a Musical That Never Was. Schrodinger's Cat turn in two cuts that teeter between minimalist techno and sound collage -- particularly on "Upright in the Mist", which seems built around the manipulation of a skipping CD (or CDs). Joe Fleury turns in an introspective trio of rather dark, minimal electro-Euro-pop songs that reveal more with each listen, while Noble Gas' "Toadstools" is the sprawling ambient track cum Chris and Cosey tune that every compilation needs. Three pieces from Klimperei also intrigue -- "Le Canotier" and "Pour Cartonneux" are mostly piano, while "Les Jolies Filles" combines cheesy MIDI and kazoo. Point of Yucca Volume Two is delightfully varied and thoroughly unpredictable -- and, since it seems to have been out for a while now, hopefully someone will read this review and send us Volume Three. Number One of TOP20 at WEVL FM Radio Station, Memphis
Mystery Hearsay international, Intake Manifold (June 1994)
Yucca Tree Records of Bern, Switzerland in collaboration with Pointless Music of Kent, Ohio (USA) bring you "Point of Yucca" an international compilation CD over 76 minutes long. Making sure that you have plenty to listen to wasn't enough for this DADA (Digital Analog Digital Analog) production. Here's the other sca dope: This is Volume One in a limited edition of 500 copies, packaged in a 8 1/2 by 6 inch folding plastic wallet comes a color cover with the CD in the left pocket and 9 pieces of artwork in the right pocket, a very legible contact list of the contributing Combos and on the CD is some pretty eye appealing drawing too .. Now the audio end: 25 tracks by 12 contributors from around the globe. In order of appearance -(# of Tracks) / [Origin] - (1) Hal Rammel [Wisconsin] whose track "Prefigured Recollections" sounds like a conversation between whales in space, (3) David Westling [Illinois] brings you "Beleg Ulistas" a quarky ditty of the slanted side then "Into the Labyrinth" and "Once more to this Star" both launch into the ethers, (4) Die Welttraumforscher [Swiss] offer up the "Die Feuermann & Wasserfrau Suite" kinda 4 part melody of plinky synths, guitars and soft vocals, (3) Morloops [Swiss] true to their name - circlize "Dracula Loop" eerie wierdness, dance "Pain Loop" beatness then of course the jazzy pleasure ooze of "Orff Loop" hippity hop. 11 tracks down 14 to go ... (1) Doc Wör Mirran [Germany] flow in with "Slow #11" calming things down with ambient tones, (2) Mike Hovancsek of Pointless Music steps in with two collab tracks - Mike H., B. Chabala and J Cieciel do "The Stomp" and Mike H. with Amy Denio "Thetralisch Hersagen" experimental excellence, (3) Diledadafish [Swiss] three varied tracks that run the gamut of style, (1) The Screamin' Popeyes [Missouri] "What the Statue Saw" is my favorite track that asks the question "Why?, You try to, but can't Why?" then the jam kicks in and cooks, (3) Liquid Sound [Germany] "Peter's Journey" a trip thru strange sounds and the "Great Music in the Body" atho ambient then "Cow - Mouse" a short sonic 22 seconds long, (1) Neglige - Electronic Underwear [Germany] "Dreinklang" crystalline sparkles in bubbling overdrive, (3) {Bonus} YXIMALLOO [Japan] "A Bird, A Horse, A Fish" each sitting in a mudhole thrashing about in terminal weirdom. If you are looking for something different you will find it at the tree of yucca and looking further is pointless. Produced and Recorded at various places between 1981 & 1993. Garsch this is so hard, but another cliche would be pitiful praise. Getting in tune with a compilation such as this one makes one want or start a label. At a retail price of $10 this CD is a steal. For more information on the combos and Point Of Yucca Volume Two. (Mike Honeycutt)

Improvijazzation Nation, issue # 13 - Thirtheenth Edition, Summer 1994
Yucca Tree Records: POINT OF YUCCA - A quite interesting compilation CD from Yucca Tree; there’s MANY of the volkz that you who live/breathe improv will recognize… Doc Wor Mirran, M. Hovancsek, Amy Denio, Die Welttraumforscher, & yes, even (our ol’ faves) the Screamin’ Popeyes! Some intricate, some sparse, some odd & some not… any way you LOOK/LISTEN — it’s fo’ REAL improvisation! The CD is not in a hardplastic cover, rather it’s dressed up sorta’ like a lil’ book! I opened it, expecting to find a whole GROUP of label promo material (for Yucca Tree, I mean) & lo & hebold, wot popz out but (some) really NEAT flyers for each group represented on the comp. Pretty packages don’t always mean GOOD material (in fact, I have a slight MIStrust for stuph that’s packaged TOO neatly) – but in THIS event it (most definitely) DOES! Instrumentally, the range is all the way from percussive pieces to guitar/bass backed improv orchestrals. Three “bonus” trax (from YXMALLOO) round it out for a GREAT journey through strange territory – for the STRAIGHT among ye’, ennyway! For info, & to GET the "point", write to ...

False Prophet Campaign (2-23-1999)
From the land of chocolate and Martina Hingis (yum on both :) ) comes Switzerland's Diledadafish. As the name would imply, these guys have a major interest in the Dada movement, and it carries into their sound well. But what is their sound you may ask? Umm...Hmm...well, read on. Mothball leads off with "First Lady", a less-than-a-minute piece of lighthearted synth and drum machine. "London Onion" is based around a lo-fi sounding bass/drum rhythm section, sinister toy keyboards and downright evil sounding processed vocals (lyrics originally by Dada God Kurt Schwitters). "What's The Point?" is actually very close, in the sonic sense, to some of Coil's work, especially the superb Hellraiser themes. "Rearview Mirror" is some really surrealist jazz stuff...sparse electronic beats, bassy synths, and brass instrumentation. Very strange... "Une Damne Dans La Quarantaine" almost calls to mind something as conventional as synth-pop, but stripped down to the barest skeleton of structure, consisting simply of simplistic synth work. "Out of the Door" is another strange one, sounding like distant bass rhythms and plucked toy guitar, all based around cluttered, sampled dialog. The feeling of Coil returns on "In Need of Rest", which sounds like something that wouldn't have been totally out of place on their Scatology album. And we all know how good Coil is :). "The Look-Away-Core With Special Absorbency In The Front Where Boys Need It Most" is another one of the stranger tracks...robotic synth rhythms and cheesy keyboard bits, all punctuated by sampled baby noises. Total musical Dada absurdity, very good. "Mouth Hall" follows "Rearview Mirror"'s style of strange jazz, but more sparse and almost ambient. The actual "album" ends with a version of "Strangers In The Night" which, of course, is absurdist as you'd expect. All brass (or wood instruments, I really don't have a good ability to decipher instrumentation) and piano, and really weird vocals. As a bonus, three archival tracks are available on the disc, starting with 1988's "3-177/75-177". Once again, it calls to mind a more light hearted Coil, with it's dark backing sounds, more "friendly" synth, and sampled conversations. "Bombe (Inflammable)" sounds like tension filled horror movie music played on toy keyboards, thus making a great absurd statement. The final track, "Diledadafish" (from 1987) has more of a collage feel then the other tracks. Maybe akin to Nurse With Wound? In total, a very unique listen. I've heard many reviews and comments comparing Diledadafish to the Residents, so I suppose Residents fans would enjoy this. If you want to hear just how strange electronic music can get, or something like a more absurd version of Nurse With Wound or Coil, you should really get a hold of Yucca Tree (link is above) and get one. Limited to 550 copies, and comes in one of the coolest jewel boxes I've ever seen...great use of transparent sheets and such. (Creaig Dunton)
